 Buildings & Grounds Committee

Any maintenance problems or concerns of the church, parsonage and surrounding grounds are addressed to the committee. It is then taken care of by the committee or addressed back to the council for outside contractor approval if necessary.

The committee is responsible for:

  • Lawn mowing schedule
  • Spring clean up which involves raking, trimming shrubs, and general lawn cleanup
  • Fall clean up or workday for general repairs
  • Obtaining bids for projects that are outsourced such as snow plowing or other large projects. It is then turned over to the Council for approval upon the Committee’s recommendation
  • General repair of small things, such as changing light bulbs, fixing doors that stick, minor things that can be done without contracting out
  • Monthly inspection of the building

Christian Education Committee

The Christian Education Committee promotes learning and understanding of our faith at all ages, from Sunday School to adult Bible Study. The areas it oversees include:

  • Sunday School
  • Confirmation
  • Youth Ministries
  • Christmas Pageant
  • Vacation Bible School
  • Bugs for Lunch Library
  • Adult Education
  • Bible Study
  • Family Activities

Church Council

The Church Council is a governing body established by the Church Constitution and By-Laws. The Executive Committee consists of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Members of the Church Council attend the various committee meetings within the church as representatives of the Council. This provides good communication between the Council and the Committees.

  • Areas that the council addresses:
  • Achieve a balanced budget
  • Fulfill congregational approved needs of the church
  • Maintain church facilities
  • Support committee needs within the church
  • Promote Christian Education for children of the church
  • Promote Adult Education
  • Work with secure investment companies/advisors
  • Be supportive of the pastor(s) needs and administrative staffing
  • Work with the Trust, Memorial, and Cornerstone Committees
  • Assist the pastor in serving communion to all those who believe.

Evangelism Committee

This group is responsible for the church's public relations outreach in the community and to maintain a welcoming atmosphere for visitors to the church.

  • Overseeing coffee hour schedules and supplies including serving once a month for “Birthday Sunday"
  • Coordinating the church’s participation in the Ripon College Back to School Picnic
  • Distributing the Upper Room devotional publications
  • Recognition of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day during those Sundays
  • Creating and coordinating member directories every five years

Mission Committee

The Mission Committee works with the pastor in promoting the mission concept of the church. The committee shares information related to Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM) and other appeals.

The Mission Committee supports a wide variety of projects through fundraisers and donations. These include:

  • One Great Hour of Sharing
  • Church World Service
  • Solution Center
  • Relay for Life
  • Evangelical Children’s Home
  • Orion’s Family Services
  • Ripon Santa Club
  • Headstart
  • Harvest-in-Gathering
  • Sunday School Projects
  • OCWM
  • Supporting food collection for the Ripon Area Food Pantry at St. Catherine of Siena and the Ripon Community Food Pantry at Traded Treasures 
  • Ronald McDonald House Pop Tabs collection
  • Matthew 25: Ministries Pill Bottle collection

Scholarship Committee

The committee develops policies, application forms, and provides information to the congregation and works with the Stewardship Committee to encourage gifts and bequests. They administer two separate scholarship funds: Continuing Education and Church Camp and Youth Event Scholarships. The amounts of monies available for scholarships are determined by the Council upon the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee, after verification by the Trust Committee.

Stewardship Committee

The purpose is to oversee the means and methods whereby members can express and commit themselves to the mission of the church through contributing their time, talent, and financial resources.

  • Initiate and conduct a year-round program to inform members on how their gifts are being used to further the ministry of Our Saviour’s as well as the church’s worldwide mission
  • Encourage members to grow as stewards through their proportionate giving as a reflection of their personal faith and gratitude towards God;
  • Design programs that promote members benefits as well as obligations for active participation, contribution, and planned giving.

Worship Committee

Each member has various responsibilities within a subcommittee. They attend their assigned subcommittee meetings and report back to the Worship Committee. Also they are responsible for preparing schedules for their sub-committees.

  • Audio/Visual Operators

This portion of the committee is responsible for recruiting and training the Audio/Visual operators and makes sure there is someone scheduled to run the sound system during services and another to run the Worship Service PowerPoint that is displayed on the big screen above the altar.

  • Altar Guild

The purpose of the Altar Guild is to care for the Altar, be custodians of the altar parament hangings and communion ware, having the altar ready for each service.

Members are divided into three committees and each committee serves for a month every three months.
Each month a committee prepares communion for the Sunday worship service as well as Thursday evening worship service in the Chapel.
Decorations are placed in the sanctuary for each Sunday service.

  • Hospitality

This includes making out the schedules for the ushers and greeters for each church service, as well as scheduling volunteers to serve as liturgists. 

  • Usher Teams

Currently, there are six usher teams. Each team is responsible for:

    • Meeting & greeting people as they enter the church.
    • Seating those who enter the church.
    • Collecting Sunday offertory.
    • Provide church attendees with a bulletin.
    • Take count of attendees.
    • Collect remaining bulletins at the end of service
  • Music subcommittee

This includes attending meetings with the pastor, organist, choir directors, and a representative from the Scott Street Puppeteers.
